About Us:

 

Gene expression variability across the genome has significant impact on understanding the progress and prognosis of cancer.  The Cancer Functional Genomics Core at the Stephenson Cancer Center offers cutting-edge technology that can provide extremely accurate and reliable expression data to support drug discovery research.  The versatile Agilent SureScan Microarray Scanner system provides the ability to scan genome-wide microarray profiles. For quality assessment of purified RNA and DNA, there are two instruments that include the Biorad Experion™ Automated Electrophoresis Station and Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer. The Biorad CFX96™ Touch Real-Time PCR Detection System provides highly-reliable quantitative individual gene transcription profiling. Bio-Rad QX100 Droplet Digital PCR is useful to detect the absolute copy number of the genes.  Functional analysis of proteins using biochemical assay can be evaluated with the Perkin Elmer EnVision® Multilabel Reader. An ultimate high-throughput high-content imaging instrument, Operetta from Perkin Elmer can provide high resolution images for screening drugs under live and fixed cell context. Live cell metabolic changes with respect to oxygen consumption and pH change due to respiration can be determined using Xfe 96 extracellular flux analyzer exclusively from Seahorse.

Name Description
Microarray scanning service 

The core will provide microarray scanning and to limited extent analysis service. The core has fluorescent high resolution (2 micron) to colorimetric scanners. Microarray slides can be developed by the researcher/user in the core facility and scanned on one of the scanners. Data retrieval can be assisted to limited extent.

Janus Automated Workstation Assistance 

Automated liquid handling workstation can be utilized for hands-free 96- to 384-wells plates dilutions, plating and assays. Please submit request form for your liquid handling requirements. Once algorithm and protocols are tested and researcher is trained, Janus can be handled by the user, if needed.
